How to make Alex's pour-over coffee

October 12th, 2021

I usually like to start my day by making a pour-over coffee. It may sound cumbersome, but I enjoy the process, and it gives me a moment to focus on nothing else but making my cup. The tools, ingredients and steps are as follows (but may vary depending on the beans):

Tools

Hario Buono kettle Hario V60 plastic coffee dripper Hario V60 white filter Bodum BISTRO electric coffee grinder Etekcity scale Stopwatch (i.e. your handy dandy phone)

Ingredients

Your desired coffee beans. Currently I'm having: Luna coffee Image from @enjoylunacoffee on Instagram

Steps

  1. Boil water (1:17 ratio in mind)
  2. Measure out grams of coffee beans desired (I usually go for 18)
  3. Grind to a medium consistency, allowing for some coarser pieces
  4. Insert filter into dripper and dripper onto mug
  5. To remove filter flavour: Pour boiling water onto dry filter
  6. Drain
  7. Add ground coffee to filter
  8. Pour enough hot water to wet grounds
  9. Let coffee bloom for 30 seconds
  10. Pour 40 grams of water every 30 seconds until finished
  11. Enjoy!
