Over and over I hollowed out a tree that held your name
Carved into its rings and damp bark a thousand miseries or more
Grown paper thin with absolute desire to carefully shatter
Immaculate perception borne of ink-stained wings
On battered knees married to freshly laid humus
Cracked maelstrom and scattered ash
Drowns out the orbit of our sheltered haste yet
At the behest of my dreamless solace I stay
Shaking, I press my ear to this house
As the heat emanating off my skin offers kind companion
I listen, plead, to be soothed by the sweet maple exhale
Trace the paths of these convoluted roots, disappeared, entrenched
Seduced by the promise of sublime permanence decayed
Through time and time again such promises wash ashore
And by sunset chartered for the second star
Along the torrential tide I mark my forgettable mark
